The Tropicana Gold Project was referred to the WA Environmental Protection Authority and the Commonwealth Dept. of the Environment, Water, Heritage and Arts in Q2 2008. Following a four week review period both agencies determined that the Project should undergo a formal environmental impact assessment. As part of the impact assessment process an extensive number of baseline surveys and studies where commissioned and used by the Project team to identify critical environmental and cultural values.

Armed with the information collected during the baseline survey’s and studies the Project team has developed a Project that avoids critical environmental values and minimised impacts. This information was also used to compile the Projects Public Environment Review document (PER) which was released for an 8-week public consultation period between September and November 2009. A copy of the PER and its associated baseline surveys and management strategies can be obtained from the links below.

During the public consultation period 11 submissions where received on a range of aspects such as:

  • Survey adequacy
  • Heritage protection
  • Biodiversity protection
  • Environmental Offset and
  • Secondary approvals.

As a requirement of the assessment process the Joint Venture is required to respond to each submission for the assessing agencies. The Projects “Response to Submission” document was submitted to the both the WA and Commonwealth at the end of February 2010 to determine adequacy of the document. During April the “Response to Submission” document was accepted and the final phase of the WA Environmental Impact Assessment commenced. A copy of the “Response to Submission” document can be obtained from the link at the bottom of this page.
